Designed for beginners and intermediate artists, this workshop emerges from Yu Shu’s personal artistic evolution, designed to help students to create dynamic and expressive figurative drawings by breaking free from traditional limitations.

Through a step-by-step approach, participants will develop a more confident and intuitive drawing technique.

The workshop delves into essential anatomical elements, guiding students through critical landmarks, planes, value, edges, and shading techniques.  Rather than fixating on strict measurement methods, students will be encouraged to blend foundational anatomical knowledge with their intuitive sense of proportion.

Participants will learn the techniques for creating dynamic figurative drawings with graphic pencils and conte. The culminating element of the workshop focuses on breathing life into  drawings by transcending traditional shading rules. Students will learn to create more organic transitions and understand how thinking in planes to transform flat drawings into vibrant, three-dimensional forms. By the workshop’s end, students will have the tools to approach figure drawing with newfound creativity and expressive freedom.

The workshop spans three days with a structured format: the first two days consist of morning lectures followed by afternoon lide model drawing sessions.  On the third day, participants will engage in a full-day session working with a life model, concluding with personalized critique.
