This course will immerse you in the time-honored methods of figure drawing as practiced by master artists of the 19th century. We will study the principles of proportion, gesture, anatomy, light, and form—fundamental skills that bring life and realism to the human figure.

Following a structured, traditional approach, we will explore techniques such as the academic block-in, constructive anatomy, chiaroscuro shading, and contour refinement—methods that have been used for generations to create highly detailed and expressive figure drawings. Using graphite, charcoal, and conte, you will learn to develop your drawings from loose sketches to fully rendered works of art.

By the end of this course, you will have a strong foundation in classical figure drawing, enabling you to capture the human form with confidence and accuracy. Whether you are just starting or looking to refine your skills, this course will provide a deep understanding of the discipline and beauty of traditional draftsmanship.
