In this course, we will explore the time-honored techniques of 19th-century landscape artists, focusing on the principles of composition, atmospheric perspective, light, and texture. Inspired by the masters of the era, we will study how they captured the beauty of nature with depth, harmony, and a keen sense of observation.

Using traditional methods, we will learn to construct landscapes from initial sketches to fully realized compositions, emphasizing gesture, tonal values, and brushwork to create a sense of space and mood. We will work with a variety of media, including graphite, ink, watercolor, and oil, applying techniques that were essential to 19th-century landscape painters.
